This service has four main components:

  1. Psychological Assessment of Mental Health, cognitive functioning, personality, autistic spectrum conditions, motivation, and emotional, social and interpersonal functioning;

  2. Case Formulation and MDT Care Planning. This informs the MDT which treatment and care actions are needed to facilitate change, growth and recovery towards greater independence;

  3. Psychological Treatment and MDT Case Review. There is a range of theoretical approaches available, informed by cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), and compassion-focused therapy interventions;

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - Onsite Consultant

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence based treatment which helps an individual to understand how their thoughts influence their mood, physical well being and behaviour.  It is recommended by NICE for the treatment of Depression, Anxiety, PTSD and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

CBT is used on a 1:1 basis at Thistle Manor to help residents who are experiencing symptoms of:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Bi polar disorder

  • Schizophrenia

  • Psychosis

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

It is also used to help residents struggling to manage unhelpful or maladaptive behaviour such as anger, changes to sleep patterns, drug and alcohol misuse (CBit),  problems with self esteem and behavioural difficulties.

Every individual admitted to Thistle Manor is assessed regarding their suitability for CBT. This includes an individual’s motivation to change and their ability to work within a structured therapeutic framework.

We encourage residents to get involved, providing opportunities for individuals to work independently and cooperatively.

They may wish to rekindle interests, improve skills, learn something new or find an interest that helps them to relax and take their mind off worries and cares.

Our aim is to build confidence and self-esteem and develop social and problem solving skills in a positive, friendly environment.

We also offer a programme of workshops, involving members of the care team who wish to share their hobby or interest with our residents. These have proved to be very successful.
