ABOUT US

Location and Site

The site is furnished to the highest standards and provides support for 33 individuals. We have 29 en-suite bedrooms and 4 onsite recovery flats with kitchen facilities.

 

The en-suite rooms are spread over 3 units; 2 male-only units and 1 female-only unit.

 

The buildings are set within extensive country grounds on the outskirts of Clitheroe Town Centre - accessible by a 20-minute walk.

Onsite Facilities

Each unit has its own kitchenette, allowing individuals to be more independent in preparing food. There is also a large separate skills kitchen that allows for 1:1 and group cooking sessions. Onsite, there are extensive garden areas including an allotment, outdoor sports area, Summer house and a recent addition of an outdoor Pizza oven with dining area, to name but a few. 

Recovery Flats

24 hour service with Registered Nurses, support workers and Full MDT- supporting individuals to achieve a good quality of life, enabling them to develop independent living skills and work towards shared and agreed future goals in their care pathway. 

Our on-site Recovery Flats allow residents to be as independent as possible prior to discharge.

Our Mission

Thistle Manor's mission is to provide recovery-focused, person-centred services that enable any individual with a mental health need to be actively involved in their recovery towards well-being and independence. We provide this service within a facility of exceptional quality and with the highest standards.

Our experienced multidisciplinary team endeavours to offer effective care planning, risk assessments and treatment for individuals, based on their needs, whilst reflecting dignity and choice.

Our Aims
  • To provide effective, NICE recommended, recovery-focussed, person-centred treatment in a caring environment.

  • To enable individuals with complex needs, to develop the necessary skills to live as independently as possible in the community.

  • To have a multidisciplinary team comprised of experienced, compassionate and highly-trained professional staff.

  • To work with external agencies in an effective partnership.

  • To provide a responsive service reactive to each resident's needs.

TONY THOMPSON

MA F.Ins LM BEd(Hon) RMN RNLD DN(Lord) Cert Ed. RNT

 

Tony is a director of the non-profit company Bridge R&D, a Lead Investigator for Caring Solutions UK Ltd. He is an author and editor of key text books and is a visiting Mental Health Act Manager at a number of hospitals. A former professional advisor and Inspector for the GNC, he is also involved with international R&D in Health and Social Care.

Experienced MDT
Meet the Team

Thistle Manor is a unique private and specialist residential service that provides hospital-equivalent care in a community based setting. Thistle Manor has an experienced Multidisciplinary Team which is a key asset in the delivery of its quality service. The team consists of professionals with extensive experience of working with individuals with severe mental illness, learning disabilities and neuro-developmental disorders, who may have associated secondary disabilities such as forensic histories and substance misuse.

 

The MDT is comprised of the members shown here along with Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN), Registered Learning Disability Nurses (RNLD) and a Social Worker.

DR. AMITH MUNSHI

MRCPsych

 

Dr Munshi came on board the Thistle Manor team in June 2019, consulting the MDT and offering his specialist  skills to the team, with the aim to prevent hospital admissions by providing review of individuals' care and treatment needs. 

DAVID MORRISON

PhD ClinPsyD PGCE MA(Hons. 1st)

 

David is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 26 years’ experience supporting people presenting with problems relating to their mental health, Learning Disability, past trauma and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. He has worked within rehabilitation and secure service NHS settings for 18 years', and within voluntary and independent sectors for over 8 years.

KAREN REA

MA PG Dip CBT BSc(Hons) RMN RNLD RNT DPSN Pg Cert Ed

 

Karen is a Consultant Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with experience working in primary care services, drug and alcohol services, inpatient children and young people services, low secure services and rehabilitation settings. Karen is a Programme Head and Lecturer for IAPT programmes at Liverpool John Moores University.

PAULINE BLOOMFIELD

BA(Hons) MA MSET Dip PCAT

 

Pauline has worked at Thistle Manor since 2010 running therapeutic arts workshops including pottery, textiles, drawing, painting and printmaking. Pauline is qualified in Person-Centred Art Therapy which enables her to engage residents that use our service in therapeutic art.

MATT THOMSON

RMN

Matt has worked in mental health services since 1999. He completed his nurse training in 2006, and mentorship  in 2011. He has a background working in forensic/secure services and has also worked in rehabilitation services. He is the Medication Lead at Thistle Manor.
